Arriving at the VIP Lounge of the Hasely Crawford Stadium I found the symposium under way with a registration table and some 50+ people in attendance. After signing up and taking my symposium package which included a paper by Brian Lewis and a notepad, I looked for an available seat and saw one Lincoln “Tiger” Phillips sitting at the back next to an empty seat seemingly going over in his mind what he was to contribute. A quick smile and shake of the hand and I was quietly listening to the proceedings with this great thinker next to me. Dexter Skeene was introducing Brian Lewis at the podium as the facilitator as I quickly scanned the room looking at the overall setup. There were two (or more) loud speakers controlled by the sound man in the back, a projector, wireless microphones were not in short supply as were a few laptops operated by the support staff who were busy taking note of all the material discussed. Kudos must go to CNC3 and WinTV for having their camera crews there for the whole day as I immediately hoped the entire symposium could possibly be made available to the public via ttproleague.com. I even allowed myself to think we could even go a step further and have the symposium streamed live over the internet with all the media tools on hand….with the right volunteers. |

Nigerian born diva Patti Boulaye has virtually singlehandedly dedicated the last 5 years to building clinics in Africa for children suffering from HIV/AIDS. This stems from a visit she made to Africa where she learned that babies born with the HIV virus were buried alive in order to kill the demons inside the children and therefore protect the families and community. |

After viewing With God Nothing is Impossible: The Marvin Andrews Story, Warrior Nation member Joann Charles decided to share it with the youth congregation of her church. Joann was so moved by the film that she felt that it could be used as a motivational and inspirational tool. The screening was held at the Morvant Open Bible Church on the Rock, Lady Young Road on Sunday, September 9th 2007. Here is her recap of the proceedings. |

Ian Porterfield, the former Trinidad and Tobago national team coach died on September 11th 2007. I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Porterfield back in 2000, before T&T qualified for the semi-final round group with Mexico, Canada and Panama.
I was fortunate because “Porters” agreed to an unscheduled interview even though it was between a morning and afternoon training session and despite the fact that I had no media credentials. I was literally a man off the street yet he was very accommodating and treated me with professional courtesy.
I believe that Ian Porterfield sometimes gets a bad rap from local fans, partly because he replaced Bertille St. Clair and partly because of the eventual failure in the Hex. I hope that this archived correspondence gives fans, young and old, an opportunity to get a better measure of the man.
May he Rest in Peace. |
